On my way back home

We head home today. Pray for us as we travel. Our hearts are forever changed by these people and this country. I pray that you have gained a little bit of insight about the real Guatemala. Thank for your support in this journey. May God bless you!

The feeding of the 500

Today, we finished up all 4 greenhouses. It was a pretty incrediable sight.  We dedicated the greenhouse to the Lord. Our prayer is that God will use these greenhouses to feed many Guatemalans.Today, we finished up all 4 greenhouses.

This afternoon we went to the dump. It was very tough.  The medical team had a really long day. The medical team say approximately 500 people.  The people were so needy. Most of the people live in the village in a little shack, but they spend there days in the dump digging through the trash looking for food and things they can sell.  The cows and the people are digging through the same trash.

When I arrived at the dump about lunch time the line to see the doctors and the nurses was extremely long.

When we feed them lunch it was mass chaos. They brought any kind of container they could find.  Some people just had pails to put their food in.

Pray for these people.  They have absolutely nothing.  The only real food they recieve is the food the mission provides for them three times a week.  It is heartwrenching.

Beunos Noches!!

This tardes (afternoon), our team had a lovely time exploring the nearby town of Chiquimula.  We shopped in the market and in two local grocery stores.  It was truly a cultural experience. In most of the stores you had to bargain for everything you bought.  It was rather difficult to know the true value of an item, but I think we came out all right. Street vendors were everywhere selling fruit, vegetables, clothes, shoes, and cd's. Traffick was bumper to bumper.

Pray for us as we finish up our work tomorrow and as we visit the people who live in the dump. Love you guys!

Faith can move mountains......or maybe just bolders

The construction team just finished three of the greenhouses. It was a lot of hard work. Today, we dug wholes for a couple of hours. The greenhouses are built in a "rock garden". Every time we would go to dig a hole we would hit a rock, but by the grace of God we made it:)

I may be coming home early:)

We have guards with us, just in case. It was pretty weird at first, but I'm getting used to it.

Day 5

We are all getting ready for supper!
This morning, we either worked in the Nutrition Center or we worked at the orphanage.  It was so sad. When you put the babies down they would cry and reach for you. It is amazing how much we take for granted in America.  Babies are held and children play and get attention, but not here.  Here, there are so many children without anyone to care for them.  The mission has done a wonderful job of saving these childrens lives and giving them a place to live, but they need human touch and attention.  It is such a blessing to provide them with some of the attention they need.

There was a big ceremony for the dedication of the new hospital this morning. It was very nice and we got to hear some cultural music and eat some Guatemalan food.  It was all very good, but we were stuffed by the time we actually got to the dedication part which made it kind of hard to stand out in the sun:)  God has truly blessed this mission with some incredible things.

The construction team has almost completed all 4 greenhouses. Tomorrow we will finish putting up the poles and netting. Pray for us as we complete our jobs.  We are all very tired and we need the Lord's strength.

Pictures to come! Love you guys!

Day 1, 2, and 3:)

Hey everbody!!
Well I finally got internet in Llano Verde, Guatemala. It has been an amazing ride.
Join me as we walk through some experiences (and some pictures) from the last few days.

Day 1
Once we arrived at the airport in Guatemala City we immediately stepped into a different world.  As we stepped out of the airport to find our bus, we were greeted by a mob of people holding signs and selling things.  All the things I have heard about foreign countries are true about this country.
Here are a few of my observations about the city:

1) Motorcylces rule this city. They can go or do anything they please, which most definitely includes riding between the lanes.

2) The driver's are pretty crazy. On a winding road going up the mountains of Guatemala our bus was going about 70 mph. At some points it was pretty crazy, but at the same time they are very good drivers.
Here some views of the mountains:

This is definitely some beautiful country:)

3) Most of the houses are made of tin even in the middle of the city. I still have not seen a house that looks even close to an american style house.

4) Those pictues on sad TV commercials are real. People really live like that. It is not a made up sympathy plea.

Hope of life is an amazing ministry. God is really using the faith of this ministry to touch peoples lives. Pool area reminds you of a resort rather than a mission in a third world country.

Day 2

Sunday morning we got up and prepared for church. The church was amazing the faith of these people was amazing.  They were so excited to be in the house of the Lord.  The church was an assembly of God church which was very different for this Baptist girl and most of it was in Spanish.  It was very different but similarities that I noticed are:

1) Hallelujah is basically the same in every language:)

2) We can worship God in two different languages in one accord. A few of the songs we sang were popular worship songs that we knew in English and they knew in Spanish. It was amazing.

Several of us sany in English for the church members in the Sunday night service:)

Sunday afternoon each of us had the option to go to the Nutrition center and Senoir home or go to the orphanage.  Some amazing stories came out of all three of the places.  The one theme that we all keep talking about: How important human touch is to people all over the world. In Guatemala, in the US, or in eastern Europe we all need to know we are loved and cared for.

In the Nutrition center babies (3 months to a 4 years old) are cared for.  Some of them are extremely healthy, but some have some are extremley sick.  You could feel every single bone in one of the babies that I held. It definitely made me cry. Please pray for these children. They need so much love and care.

Day 3

Today we began our actual work.  The construction team began building 3 greenhouses today. We made a lot of progress, but we are a little tired.

The evangelism and mission team went to the Nutrition center and senior home to help the people there.  Some of the people merely needed there glasses cleaned so that they could see others had to be sent to a hospital in the city because they needed help so much.  God has shown His amazing grace and love to us as we have ministered to these people. We've laughed a lot and shared a lot of love to these people. I will share more later! Please pray for us as we go out tomorrow. We are getting tired and we are having to deal with our emotions as we share the love of Christ with these people:)
